Bowls
The Japanese influence has resulted in stoneware thrown pieces, rice, noodle bowls, tea bowls, tea pots and sushi plates. The bowls portray the elements of Zen simplicity os form and utility. "A delight in the ordinary".
I use fine whit stoneware clay body with a simple white glaze with drifts of colour. The heather lilac and green hues retain a muted accent giving the pieces a contemporary feel and clarity and lightness.
My latest thrown work gives a visual & tactile contrast by encorporating a black textured clay body. The outer side of the bowl is left unglazed, the curved inner surface glazed in creamy white.
The long Sushi platters are glazed in the centre and upward ends unglazed and carved.
